Basecamp Vs Collabtive

Posted by: Rob Lavender

Basecamp is a well seasoned pro at project management. Collabtive is a young upstart.

Collabtive certainly offers an excellent alternative if you're considering the first tier Basecamp plan at $24 a month. It will do everything that Basecamp can do and you can even import your projects from Basecamp if you decide to switch. Where Basecamp really comes in to it's own is with the 'Project Templates' feature. You can set up templates with common project tasks, milestones and even messages so the next time you start your project you can get a head start by using a template. Callabtive doesn't offer this yet, but there are hints and tips on the chat forum about how you can copy projects. Also, Basecamp limits you to 15 projects on the lowest plan.

There's a lot of project management tools available, but for most people's a lot these are too complicated or have a very confusing interface. 37 signals, the creators of Basecamp, are really leading the way by providing people with fully functional systems that are designed with the user in mind, and with open source projects like Collabtive i'd say that one or two people have been following close behind.
